Murder in Market Hill is an intricate cold case mystery set in 1965, centered around the death of journalist Randall Tomlinson, who was reportedly pushed in front of a train. The main suspect — Uncle Percy — confessed to the crime, but his family has always doubted his guilt. Now, years later, you must reopen the investigation, analyse decades-old evidence, and uncover the truth about what really happened that night.
This case is rated 5/5 for difficulty, making it the most challenging investigation in the Cryptic Killers collection. It’s perfect for experienced players who love complex storytelling, layered evidence, and serious detective work. Expect plenty of twists and red herrings along the way.
On average, players take about 3 hours to complete the investigation, though some may spend longer unravelling its detailed case files. It’s a deep, immersive mystery best enjoyed when you can really take your time with the evidence.
Murder in Market Hill can be played solo, as a couple, or with a group. It’s designed to work equally well as a solo detective challenge or as a team experience for mystery lovers looking for a tough, satisfying case to crack.
You can share the case with friends once you’ve completed it, but since the mystery has one definitive solution, it’s best experienced once per group. Many players pass it on to others to see how they solve it.
Really fun! Me and my girlfriend took it on as a challenge and spent a little over the time suggested to complete the puzzle. I think a few bits were delayed by overthinking! The code was a real highlight but it felt like we could have done with a little more towards the double identity twists, just because we felt like we must have missed something. Other than that a really great game and can’t wait for our next one!
A full evening's entertainment of brain aching and sleuthing. Challenging but needs more than the time suggested - well, for us oldies anyway! The Musician one took us two full evenings. Would benefit from having a paper 'grid' so we can write pertinent clues and timelines. Thoroughly enjoyable. We appreciate your hard work in setting these plots.
Brilliant twist, we cracked it in 3 hours and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Super fun
